Field Trips

 

Field trips are an integral part of the orchestra experience! See below for additional information about field trips offered for orchestra students.

 

6th Grade participates in the Carowinds Music Festival on Friday, May 1st, 2026, 6:00am-10:30pm. Students will wear their current black Laing Orchestra t-shirt, school appropriate shorts, and comfortable shoes (tennis shoes recommended).

7th and 8th Grade travel to and perform in Orlando, Florida, March 25-28th, 2026.

CPA Clinic Day at Wando High School

Friday, February 27th, 2026

9:45am  - Load buses

10:00am - Depart Laing

10:15am - Arrival at Wando

10:30am - 11:30 - 7th Grade Clinic w/Silvestri and Wando Orchestra students on stage, 8th grade rehearsal in the orchestra room with Selby

11:30am - 12:00pm - Lunch provided by Wando Orchestra (pizza, cookies, water/sodas)

12:00pm - 1:00pm - 8th Grade Clinic w/Silvestri and Wando Orchestra students on stage, 7th grade rehearsal in the orchestra room with Selby

1:15pm - Depart for Laing

1:30pm - Arrive back at Laing

Trip Itinerary:

 

**Students must already be wearing their concert uniform. Students may bring a change of clothes for when we return.

 

8:20am - All students and chaperones meet in cafeteria in uniform

8:40am - Load buses and departure from Laing Middle School

9:05am - Official Arrival Time at Lucy Beckham HS

9:30am - 8th grade warm up

9:55am - 8th grade perform on stage

10:20am - 8th grade sight read (no audience)

10:45am - 7th grade warm up

11:10am - 7th grade perform on stage

11:35pm - 7th grade sight read (no audience)

12:00pm - Finished and load buses

12:30pm - Lunch provided by boosters

2:00pm - Arrive back at Laing Middle School and change clothes

 

 

6th Grade Carowinds Trip:

 

Sixth Grade orchestra students will participate in the Carowinds Music Festival on May 1, 2026.

Carowinds Trip Itinerary: May 1st, 2026

Updated Itinerary 4/29/26  (tentative times)

 

5:30am---Students and chaperones arrive at Laing Middle School.  Please park in the parking lot in front of the cafeteria/front office.  Each student must bring a $2 tip for the Bus Drivers.  Chaperones need to collect the tips and give to bus leaders.

6:00am---Depart Laing MS for Carowinds.  We will leave on time. 

9:15am---Arrive at Carowinds, leave everything on the bus except what you need for the park until lunchtime.  Breakfast picnic provided by boosters (muffins, bagels, juice box, etc.).  Everyone must stay in assigned chaperone groups, hand out tickets at the gate, go through security if required.  

10:00am-12:00pm—fun in the park.  Eat lunch before noon or you will have to wait until 2:30pm.

12:00pm---Everyone meets inside the front gate. BE ON TIME (early). Exit together, get hand stamped, walk to buses, get instruments/music/everything for performance. Leave everything else on the bus.  Walk back through security. Help students with instruments. Walk to Carolina Theater, unpack, put cases neatly along the wooden fence, help pass out tuners and binders. Students will line up and enter the warm up room. 

1:00pm---Official Warm Up Time All chaperones go to the theater except a few.

1:30pm---Official Performance Time (chaperones watch in theatre)

After the performance---Pack up and walk back to the bus.  Before leaving the park, everyone must get hand stamped.  At the buses, store instruments and get items needed for the rest of the day in the park (money, rain or sun gear).  Students stay with chaperones until group is back inside the park.  

4:00pm---Chaperone Selfie Check-In—Remind students we have one hour until the park closes.

5:00pm---Meet at THUNDER STRIKER (red roller coaster). Find ME when you have your whole group.

5:30pm---Attendance Check on bus, bus departs for Dave & Busters (Pineville)

5:45pm---Dinner at Dave & Busters

7:15pm---Attendance Check on bus, Bus Departs.  We will contact parents 45 minutes from home.

10:30pm--- Arrive at Laing Middle School & Go Home!

 

 

 

7th & 8th Grade Orlando Trip:

 

Seventh and Eighth grade students will go to Universal Studios during the 2025-2026 school year.
